Generator Sales, Service & Installation in North Adams, MA
Family-owned, factory-trained, and serving the Berkshires since 1991. 24-hour emergency generator service for North Adams and surrounding towns.
North Adams is the small city at the north end of Berkshire County, anchored by MASS MoCA in the old Sprague Electric mill complex, set in the bowl where the Hoosic River meets the Mohawk Trail. Mount Greylock rises south of the city and the Vermont border sits a few minutes north. Year-round population is around 13,000.
Andrus Power Solutions is the Berkshire generator contractor in Lee, an hour south on Route 8 and Route 7. North Adams is part of our regular service area along with Williamstown, Adams, Cheshire, Clarksburg, Florida, and Savoy.
What the City Looks Like for Backup Power
North Adams is mostly on natural gas in the older neighborhoods, on Eversource, and most outages in the city core are short. The standby work in town is split between three property types.
The commercial buildings around MASS MoCA, the downtown blocks on Main and Eagle Street, the medical offices, and the inns and restaurants that take in the museum traffic, all benefit from a small commercial standby unit sized for refrigeration, lighting, and IT. A liquid-cooled commercial unit of 30 to 48 kilowatts on natural gas, with annual service, is the typical configuration.
The residential neighborhoods are the second type. Houses up on Church Street, on the State Road, in the Notch Road and Reservoir Road sections climbing toward Greylock, and out toward the Florida and Clarksburg lines. The Greylock-side streets are the slower-restoration part of town. Long overhead taps, hardwood canopy, and the same wet-snow exposure that hits the hilltowns to the east. Air-cooled residential standby on natural gas where the main reaches, and on propane where it does not.
The third type is the converted industrial properties. MASS MoCA itself is a special case with its own systems, but the smaller mill buildings around the city that have been turned into housing, studio, or office space often need a service upgrade as part of any generator install. Old buildings, old service entrances, and modern load requirements do not always line up; we figure that out at the site assessment.
The Mohawk Trail Corridor
Route 2 east out of the city climbs onto the Mohawk Trail ridge into Florida and beyond. The homes along that corridor, and the inns and small businesses at the hairpin and along the trail, sit on long single-phase feeders through some of the most exposed terrain in the state. Mohawk Trail customers regularly stay dark for days after a storm that takes the city back online in hours. Generator sizing for those properties starts with the well pump, the boiler, and the freezer in the basement.
